Hurricane DennisSunday, 7/10/05, 4:43 PM
Hey there, To continue this education check out the news and/or weather channel and check out the footage of the hurricane which made landfall earlier today. Watch the news over the next few days to see if the remains head our way late this week. It may stay to the west of us this time however. The extreame power of this weather event is awesome. You may have wondered why they evacuated us when the weather was so nice. This was because there was the chance that the weather you see on TV could have been hitting the keys!! The storm serge was over 10 feet which would have completely covered pigeon key and flooded all the housing there up to the second floor!! Hard to imagine!! Hope you are enjoing the photos as much as I am. As you get yours developed see if you can get them on disk also or scan them and send a few of the best ones to me so I can add them to our albums...

Thank you very much Jeff and Lisa for bringing Ashley home safe to us! Both of your personalities with the kids are fantastic especially with all the changes of schedule and being quick on your feet. Ashley had a wonderful time and she keeps telling me all the great stories about the trip. She thinks both of you are great people, and keep up the good work! I'm thankful that everyone returned safe and sound and that World Strides continues to be #1 on my list.

WE MADE IT HOME ALIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The trip was great-if i could do it agian and the california crew and lance came with us-i would say yes in a heartbeat! Worldstrides is the best! anyway my top 3 favorites were.....3-having to eat pb&j sandwichs at 3 in the morning! #2-when the shark vally lady pulled out a rubber alligator and we all jumped out of the water! and #1 has to be when lance had to fight off a gator-and decided to go up to it on the side instead of in the back! The trip was the best!

I think I speak from the collective thoughts of this parental group when I say to you, Jeff and Lisa..............the trust and comfort I surrendered to when saying "yes" to this trip never faltered - thank you for .....well, just say, coming home safely, You did an AWESOME job of staying flexible and modeling tolerance of change.
Home sweet homeSaturday, 7/9/05, 9:03 PM
A perfect ending to a great trip. I couldn't be happier with the group during the trip with all the curve balls thrown at us. But the best part was all the compliments my wife and I received during and between flights on how well our kids behaved. Great job!! We couldn't have asked for a better group of kids and supportive parents. I will be posting a link to pictures on sunday so keep checking in. If you have a chance post a summary of some of the highlights of the trip. Thank-you so much for making this so much fun and exciting.

Not so windy MiamiSaturday, 7/9/05, 8:33 AM
Good morning, The weather is much better and the sun is actually poking out at times. We are heading to the airport at 12:30 to get things moving for the 3:00 departure. No delays at this point however this could change. If it does I will be calling a parent to post this on the web site. If you search for our flight and notice it is cancelled or delayed please check this site and post something if it is not already posted. Thanks Jeff
Windy MiamiFriday, 7/8/05, 8:15 PM
Good evening, Tomorrow we are heading to the miami museum of science planitarium and then we are going to make sure our plane is set and go to the airport early due to increased security. If the flight is cancelled we are staying at the same location until sunday. The Worldstrides coordinator of operations arrived today to oversee that everything goes smoothly. This is awesome since she is at the top of the worldstrides food chain. The spiratic tropical winds with heavy rain are giving the students an awesome taste of the power of mother nature. It is an awesome hotel and you cannot even hear it outside. I will be in touch tomorrow if there are any changes or delays in flights. At this point we are looking at everything being on time and we will go from there. Thanks for your trust and have a great night. Jeff

Talked to Jeff a few minutes ago...........almost 11pm. They are on the bus on the way to Miami. It'll take quite a few hours... 3 if there wasn't a lot of traffic. They are going to let the kids sleep in late..probably until 10 or 11. They have a lot of things planned...still working on swimming with the dolphins, science museum, and more. He is going to have all the kids call home sometime tomorrow. They are all crashed on the bus.I hope the phone tree worked well for everyone... Jeff asked. Have a good evening.........Jodie

Leaving Pigeon KeyThursday, 7/7/05, 3:34 PM
After a enjoyable "Last Supper" where the staff cooked everything off that would go bad we packed our gear and are getting ready to head out to Miami where we will be staying, I believe at the mariott airport (4 1/2star) Worldstrides has been booking activities all day today for tomorrow and saturday in and near Miami. From possible swim with the dolphins, to the science museum, hard rock cafe, and many more options. The kids are all seeing first hand what goes into hurricane prep. Talk about awesome! I love earth science !! We will keep you informed as more information comes our way. The main thing is that we are getting well out of the way of the approaching storm.
Pigeon KeyThursday, 7/7/05, 7:52 AM
Another awesome day here at the key!! The ladies are out snorkeling, seas are great. THe guis are swimming now that the reef fish ID lab has completed. After lunch we will be switching rolls and the guis will be heading out to sombrarro reef. As of now tomorrow's snorkeling is not going to happen due to the projected influance of dennis so instead we will be heading to the Turtle hospital and Key West Aquarium. If you talk to your children please don't tell them this yet because we have not made final decisions yet. Have a great day and we will let you know how the day went later..

Catherine Schwoeffermann/MenzWednesday, 7/6/05, 5:38 AM
July 6 Hello parents, I just spoke with my daughter, Alyssa, and with Jeff Sabol. Jeff asked me to comment in the guest book for other parents who might not have heard any thing yet. Here's the news: * Delay in Syracuse, got to Miami around 4 pm * Florida - low winds and brilliant sunshine * Had an exciting evening walk in the Everglades, and saw 8 or 9 alligators. One was on the foot path directly in front of the group. Saw walking sticks and other critters. Had the indoctrinary moquito bites!! * Got to the Hotel around 10pm, had a swim in the pool, and to bed by midnight. * This morning they are on their way to Shark Valley, and more adventures in the Everglades. * Jeff mentioned that a tropical storm may be headed toward Florida on Thursday or Friday -- there are contingency plans in place, so they may only snorkle one day, and if there is a storm the other day, the group will go to either a sea turtle hospital or a manatee refuge. * Based on the ambient sounds from the telephone conversation there is high energy, tremendous excitement, and lots of adventures!!
